RE: What would you have siad??

If you can't sleep with the sound of an enclosed generator running more than 200' away, perhaps RVing isn't for you.
Your response was a good one. If she was polite, then you should be polite. If she had been rude, there would have been no need to be vindictive. You could still politely stand your ground.
You're 2 people trying to enjoy some time at a campground. Stay within the rules, but don't go the extremes of the rules just to be mean to someone else.
If you had a legitimate reason to run the generator (cooking or it's 95 degrees outside), then run it within the rules.

Yeah, I want the people who brought you the IRS, the DMV, Congress, etc. building my next car. They've proven they can deliver excellent customer service, efficiently.

RE: Why aren't Canadians having a crisis?

Don't forget the Community Reinvestment Act which had the good intentions of stopping red lining.
Red lining was the term for banks drawing a line and refusing to do loans in certain neighborhoods.
The path to you know where is paved with good intentions. Now banks were forced to make loans, many of which were never going to be paid back.
Combine that with non-CRA lending to greedy people buying houses they could never afford and greedy banks willing to make the loans, and that puts us where we are today.

RE: Crossing into the USA-What foods are forbidden

I'm a contractor with CBP and my wife is a govie with CBP. Customs has to enforce laws and regulations that come out of over a dozen other agencies.
The food restriction is actually from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but at most border crossings, CBP has to do the enforcement.
You might want to check the USDA.gov web site.

RE: Tow capacity

What is the capacity of the hitch?
What is the GVWR and GCVWR of the MH?
What is the typical loaded weight of the MH?
How much does the loaded trailer weigh?

RE: Tell me about tailgating

Since Philly built the 2 new stadiums...Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park...they actually have signs posted in the parking lots..."No Tailgating"....sounds un-American if ya ask me.
Yeah, but it's right next to the "Don't Boo Santa Claus" Sign, so people probably ignore it.:B

RE: The Youngsters (we've seen the older ladies and gents)

I'm 38, and we just bought our first RV at the beginning of the summer. We've only done fairly short trips. The longest was to Carlisle, PA for the All Chrysler Nationals.
When we took the out-laws with us to the Yogi Bear in Luray, VA, I'm sure people thought my father in law owned the MH.

RE: Newbie to RV------help confused by all the numbers

I agree that you should look at trailers with a GVWR of 6500 and under.
I have a Tekonsha Prodigy braker controller, and I'm happy with it. The P3 has even more bells and whistles. Tekonsha even sells a brand-specific wiring harness for your truck, so for about $10, it's plug and play. I have one for my Dodge truck. I had to crimp wires for my MH.
The WD hitch is a good idea, particularly, when you're near your towing limit.
Keep in mind that if you load up the bed/cab of the truck, you will reduce your towing capacity. In addition to that 7500 lb towing capacity, you have to look at the GCVWR of the truck. Every pound you put in the truck reduces the available GCVWR.

RE: Keep our 1994 pace arrow or buy new Super Nova??

I was looking at Super Cs with bunks from Jayco and Gulfstream. Then I looked at the Newmar Ventana with bunks. The quality of the Ventana was much better than the Seneca or Supernova.
The ride is much better, too, and of course the noise is much lower with the engine in the back.
We can put the 2 and almost 5 year old to bed and stay up playing games or watching TV.
There are other class A bunkbed options, but Newmar was the only one with more than 5000 pounds towing capacity. Even the ones with enough GCVWR only had 5000 pound hitches.

RE: Do certain states require the title to be in the vehicle?

In VA, the lienholder has the title until the lien is paid off.
The MH is the only vehicle in my fleet with a lien. For the others, the title is in the safety deposit box at the bank.
One thing I don't like about VA is that you don't have to get a notary to sign over the title. I would NEVER keep the title in the vehicle. If someone steals it, they just forge your signature on it.
Then YOU have to prove that the signature is a forgery.
Registration and proof of insurance are required in the vehicle in VA.

RE: RVing Definitions (Just Kidding)

Black and Gray Water Tanks: holding devices that many RV manufacturers think need to be the same size because you're supposed to use the same amount of water in the shower/sink as the toilet.
RV Repair Shop: Long-term storage
Flying J: fuel station that hasn't learned that you should never make it difficult for people to give you money.
Rest Stop: San Francisco bathhouse for truckers.

RE: difference between Dutch Star and Ventana

It originally came with a 383 4bbl and column-shift auto. When I bought it, it had a tired, late 70s 440.
I dropped in a 528 Hemi (dyno'd with 620 horsepower) and converted it to a 4 speed.
The engine was built in The Great White North by www.forhemisonly.com.

RE: difference between Dutch Star and Ventana

I had no problem towing this, and the car and trailer weigh at least 6000 pounds.
Obviously, the more powerful engine will do even better on hills and recovering after you have to slow down.
I really didn't notice much difference with the car behind me.
Newmar/Spartan have all the wires you need for the brake controller right under the dash, and they're labeled, too.

RE: Need Wisdom/Help on where to live fulltiming in N. Virginia

You could alternate between Pohick Bay and Lake Fairfax. They have the length of stay restriction, but they're the closest to where you want to be.

RE: difference between Dutch Star and Ventana

What did you like about the Ventana over the Dutch Star besides price?
Price was it. Plus, when I first started looking, the 09s hadn't come out, so I didn't know the Dutch Star would replace the Kountry Star. When I did find that out, I just didn't see enough value in the price difference.
I was also able to look at an 08 Ventana with bunks, but there were no Dutch Stars with bunks to look at.
The more powerful engine would be nice, of course, but I can get where I need to go and maintain speed.

RE: difference between Dutch Star and Ventana

Here are options I really like on our Ventana:
Central Vacuum
Upgraded refrigerator
In-motion satellite is nice, but it won't do HD
Ultraleather hide a bed with air mattress. You don't feel the bar and it's a real-size bed
Large storage tray
Large mirrors
Power sunvisors
Energy Management System
A&E Weather Pro Awning
Eclipse Radio with Tom Tom Navigation

RE: difference between Dutch Star and Ventana

I guess I was wrong about the chassis.
I did order mine. I got 26% off of MSRP from Beckley's in Thurmont, MD with saleman Mike Boerum.
It was easier to get that deal than to get them to come down on an 08 they had in stock. I guess that makes sense since they make more money on one you order (don't have to pay interest while it sits on the lot).
I'm happy with what I have, but if I had to do it again, I might have bought the Newmar All Star with bunkbeds instead because of the 2 extra captains chairs with the table in between. That would be great for my 2 kids, particularly when they get older (2 and almost 5).

RE: difference between Dutch Star and Ventana

Other than the engine, the only other significant differences are more options available on the Dutch Star, and Newmar will do "specials" on the Dutch Star but won't do them on the Ventana.
Specials are options that aren't listed in the brochure, or other changes that you want to make like moving the TV to another wall.
At least that's all I can see. Download the brochures for both models, and compare line by line.
I'm happy with my 09 bunkbed Ventana. I did get them to make Energy Management System an available option on it.
